We got her good..I Hope!!!

Well now that the baby shower is finally over I can post some pictures of what I made for Lisa and my DN baby shower. I don't think she was too surprised because there is always someone in the family that just can't keep secrets, but as long as she was happy and like all of the hard work that was put into we are happy.
Here is a diaper cake that I made with Pamper Size 2 diapers. They are having a boy and are huge NY Yankees fans ** Although they lost real bad this yeah lol** This cake is about 75-85 diapers. I used a navy blue floral ribbon and a baseball ribbon. The baseball was cut @ 3 1/2 in on my cricut. White is on shadow setting and the red piece is normal. Each tier is wrapped with an organza ribbon that was about 2 1/2 inches wide to simulate "frosting".
For the table centerpieces I cut 12x12 pieces of Styrofoam and covered them with fake grass rug. I cut the field @ 11 inches, to use a template and painted the field lines with white acrylic paint. I bought small wooden dowels and drilled them into the foam. I cut 2 babies @ 2 1/2 inches using the NA cartridge and my cricut, the score was cut using the baseball solutions cart @ 3 1/2 inches and the catchers mask was cut @ 2 inches also from the baseball solutions cart. The 2 baseballs were cut from left over ribbon from the diaper cake. To finish it off I added baby blue stickles to each babies diaper.
We bought small blue candle baseballs that said It's a boy and I just added tags I cut with my TBBM cartridge @ 4 inches and a baby face from NA @ 2 inches. The labels are clear mailing labels from staples.

I need to learn....

As adult you think to yourself you never going to need to learn anything ever again....WRONG!!! I need to learn how to manage my time. OMG I feel like I can never get anything done anymore.
First off I have a 2 year old that demands my attentions 24/7. LOL I hear "mommy lets play cards", "mommy put this puzzle together with me", "mommy read me a story". Shhhheeesshhhh don't get me wrong I would not trade being a SAHM for all the money in the world, but I have made my decision to start my own business and with all these extra curricular activities I am partaking in with Oli I am having a hard time accomplishing anything.

**As you read this please keep in mind that this whole paragraph was written to throw off my DSIL who frequents this blog. We were planning a surprise baby shower and she was here to see if I would post a date or creations I made for her shower**
Second, my FIL is in town from the Dominican Republic and he is turning 75 this year so my MIL has decided that she wants to throw one huge party for him. We are not talking 15- 20 people try 150-200(+) people. I was put in charge of decorations and it has not been easy. You don't want to offend anyone by buying stuff that says "You OL' Fart" which is all I have been finding. So the on switch is green on my cricut but my brain is not functioning **in enters Oli "mom I want a pop tart" The party is 2 weeks away, I need to find a dress and schedule an appointment to do my hair, Oli needs a dress and I have to try and convince the hubby to wear a tie ( not happening).
So if anyone has time management skills that they can teach me or maybe miraculously they will rub off give me a holler....I'm in desperate need of someones help.......ANYONE.

As always be good and STAY CREATIVE!!!<3

Been a while....

I have been out of touch for a while with so many craft projects that I needed to complete but yet there is never enough hours in a day to get what you need to get done, Done. The last project I made was for my youngest DB's girlfriend. She just graduated High school and her mother organized a grad/18th birthday party. I just mastered word books and I thought " what better gift than a word book for her guest to leave her a message that she can always go back to in the future"

A little note of Thanks

Just wanted to stop in and thank Shel's Scrap for my awesome background. If you would like one of her background, please visit her blog @ shelsscraps.blogspot.com.

2 in one day....have to vent

To be honest I took a punch to the gut that has put my creative juices on stand still. I'm just started this business and I have never had anyone not like my work, so far. (**then again I love my husband and family to death, I don't think they would even tell me they didn't like what I made LOL) So when I was commissioned to make some invitations and the customer didn't like them, what do you do? What do you say? I made a second set and these were rejected as well. OMG!!! I wanna close up shop and go back to being a SAHM.
I should have know that with starting a business comes your ups and downs and even criticism but preparing yourself for it and actually hearing it is 2 totally different things. I guess I have to take my old volleyball coach's advice. "Suck it up and get back in there" I am never going to succeed if I let every little negative comment slow me down. Thanks for reading and letting me vent, I'm off to make a creations that came to me as I was blogging.......I STILL HAVE IT YESSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!

Taking longer than usual

I have been in the new house....now it has been almost 2 months and I can't seem to get back into my groove of crafting. I have been hoping that this new venture I have begun would kick into warp speed and I would start helping my DH with some money but business is slow. I have to learn to make myself known and hope that people would like handmade custom stuff instead of rushing to a card shop and paying ridiculous prices for cards.
I am just grateful that I have friends and family that don't mind paying me to make things for them. I have my SIL baby shower to start preparing for. I just finished some invitations for another friend, and my brother's girlfriend's sister has just asked me to make some stuff for her baby shower at the end of the month. So although I'm not as busy I a Michael's or AC Moore I'm getting there.

I just can't believe it!!!!!

Let me start by saying that the Cricut Message Board ROCKS!!!!! I am a member of this great message board for Cricut users, and I have made some wonderful friends there and have seen so work of the most talented women and men there.

Well this week my Father's day gifts for my hubby Dennis were chosen as one of the highlighted threads on the Cricut newsletter. Its very exciting to be included, I am very skeptical about posting anything that I make because I am very hard on myself, and although my wonderfully supportive hubby and family love what I put together sometimes I second guess things.

Just wanted to say THANK YOU CRICUT MESSAGE BOARD MEMBERS AND NEWSLETTER for giving me a little reassurance that my work is good, good enough to be highlight on your newsletter.

Update

Ok, so the mommy-to-be wasn't crazy about the invite I made but the daddy-to-be loved them. I asked her what she didn't like about the card and she wasn't crazy about the brown, a little to dark and poopy looking for her LOL. I thought of it as mm mm Chocolate. So I gave it another go this morning and came up with these. I hope these are too her liking so I can get started. I have a really bad habit of leaving things for the last minute, then I'm breaking nights to get it done and I give myself major stress and migraines. Can't have that happening with a very active 2 year old around.

Enjoy your day and remember Be Creative.

Its a BOY

Here are 2 version of my criss cross card for a baby shower that I was hired to make invites for. The theme is very simply, polka dots and strips. The colors are very different and unique, Baby blue and brown. In my mind the color didn't go well but once I made the cards.....my mind said who would have thought these colors would look so good together. I hope the mom and dad to be like my creations. I hope my blog viewers like them as well.
GO out enjoy the day and be creative

Baby Shower Planning

Ok so I have 2 baby showers that I have booked, which I'm so excited about. The fact that I am getting paid to do this and I love doing this is what gives me the drive to learn new things everyday. What's so hard right now is that I'm stuck...creatively. One baby is due in late November (Pozo baby) and the other baby in December (Medina baby). Both clients are opting to find out the sex so I really can't let my creative juices flow until they pick a theme and colors.....you guys know the whole schebang!!!!

What really kinda stinks too is that my first baby shower schedule for Nov. the mother-to-be is a little picky. Not in a bridezilla kinda of picky it's just that she has that I don't expect a lot from people attitude. ** Oh gosh I hope that is making some sort of sense** So I have been meeting with her and showing her some stuff that we can do and we are not getting anywhere. I guess once they find out the sex and decide on colors, patterns and some sort of themes I will be a little easier for me to get into a groove.

The 2nd baby shower is planned but no set date has been picked**sorry Lisa, won't be posting date here** The problem here is the daddy-to-be is the picky one. I have already consulted with him on one or two ideas and everything I show him, I get the feeling he likes but on the other hand there is something he doesn't like. I feel a lot of creavtive arguing brewing.

Anyway, got to go and finish up some last minute Father's Day items. I'll be sure to post them once I'm done and their recipient have received them.

OUR NEW HOME

Well guys here it is. This is where we will be starting the new chapter in our lives. I am so excited. We just got off the phone with the lawyers and our closing date and time have been confirmed, so as of Monday June 16, 2008 @ 1 p.m. we will be the proud owners of this beautiful home, OUR first home.

I just can't believe all the things you can accumulate is such a short period of time, I mean we have only been living in our apartment for 3 years and we have been packing since early May. I also can't believe all the scrap booking, card making and crafting supplies I have. I only really started getting into this hobby/business in Jan of 2007 and I think I can fill a whole room with all my things. What's even crazier is that fact that I can't stop buying things either. It's like every time I go online of make a visit to the craft store all these new tools and accessories are coming out. **rambling ...sorry** The creators of all these products are making a killing in profits. But anyway enough about all the things I want and don't have the money for right now. We begin the actual move on Saturday so I probably will not be updating the blog till I'm officially unpacked and comfortable in our new home. WOOO HOO that's sounds so good. ~~Off to pack some more.

Memorial Day Weekend

It is finally Memorial Day Weekend and a gorgeous weekend indeed. Go out and enjoy the days of beautiful sun and family fun. Just remember that this day not only marks the beginning of Summer (unofficially) but many brave men and women served this country proud and died and some are still doing so. So at your family gatherings, BBQ's or just in the comfort of your own home, take a moment to recognize these brave people and the accomplishments that they have achieved for you and me.

Happy Memorial Day!!!!!!

Altered Candle

Here are a couple of pictures of some candles that I altered. One candle has an old sonogram picture of my daughter @ 6 months. The other 2 pictures are from my brother and sis-in-law's wedding. The candle with only their picture was a little plain so I added some of the lyrics from their wedding song.

Our New American Idol...

Well I was in shock last night when David Cook beat David Archuleta. I thought Archuleta was going to go all the way from the beginning of this season. I mean don't get me wrong, Cook was great every week. (my favorite week was Billie Jean) but Archuleta had the look. The look that drives tweens and teens alike to go mad. Buying every CD, buying magazines with pictures of their favorite artist so that they can plaster them on their bedroom walls (admit it ladies you're all guilty, heck some of you men are guilty too...LOL) Harassing their parents for money to purchase 100 dollar tickets for a concert, yada yada yada.

I thought that Archuleta fit in perfectly, but to know that Cook beat him out by 12 million votes....I guess America has spoken and WE do want a ROCKER for an American Idol! I look forward to hearing his music.

Congratulations David Cook!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How this Craze all Began....

I had a little girl 2 years ago and it all went down hill from there. LOL from the minute she entered this world I saw colors, fabrics, paper and my all time favorite GLITTER....!!!! Good-bye Savings HELLO Craft stores!!!!

I think Olivia was a little over 3 months when I began thinking of a Super Big BLOW OUT for her 1st birthday. It's a tradition in my family for a child to have what I call a "Super Sweet 1". The hunt was on for the perfect paper, the perfect ribbon, the perfect place etc. Things didn't work out so perfect once the guest list was made and I realized I had a
little over 150 invitations to make. I had so many ideas and tried many different layouts trying to make the nicest invitation possible and finally, this was what I came up with:

This was my 1st venture into card making and I was hooked. It's not my best work but practice makes perfect and I am mastering different techniques as I make more cards.

After the invitations, I thought what else can I make to give this 1st birthday the personal, unique touch?......I made my own centerpieces. These were made with a dough recipe (not edible) that I learned while in school. With a little tweaking I made the dough and colored it to match the party's theme:

I cut the dough using cookie cutters and were baked in the oven for 2 to 4 hrs @ 260 degrees because I was trying to cut corners and was pressed for time. You could also let them air dry for 24-48 hours. The centerpieces turned out pretty nice if I do say so myself. It gave Olivia's 1st birthday the Uniqueness that I was looking for. If anyone wants the recipe for the dough just email me. Thanks for looking, I hope I have inspired you to be creative.

Until Next Time.....Pinky OUT
